Shams, Abbas excel

JEDDAH — All-rounder Fouad Ali Shams of Al-Saudi XI and centurion Samad Abbas of Aziziya Elegant excelled in the WPCA Premier and Afternoon Tournaments respectively. Al-Saudi XI and IDB defeated their respective rivals in the tournament sponsored and managed by WPCA.
Premier (35 overs)
IDB thrashed AOT by 41 runs. Irfan Shah hit 57 in 41 balls as he first added 59 with Hashim Khan (18) and then 91 with Gulam Mustafa (50). Mohammed Farooq hammered 66 in 32 balls and with Junaid Hashim (37) added 85 to get to a huge 279-7. Faisal Iqbal took 2-69 and Qaiser Lateef 2-55.
AOT, in reply, was bowled out for 238. AOT top order failed miserably except for Ilyas, who scored 52 in 49 balls. Later lower order tried its best as Zeeshan made 33, Rafeeq 28, Qaiser Lateef 35 and Imran Yusuf 32. Fahad claimed 3-36.
Al-Saudi XI trounced Crown Steel by 7 wickets. Crown Steel was bowled out for 244. Waqas Ausaf hit a patient 55 in 55 balls and Anwaar Chandi scored 54 in 34 balls. The two added 78 after an early setback. Imran Azam then smashed 67 in 52 balls and Shoaib Ali 21. Fouad Shams was the wrecker-in-chief with 4-43. Sajid Saeed claimed 3-50.
Al-Saudi XI hurried to 248-3 in just 156 balls. Fouad Shams belted 120 in 53 balls, studded with 8 sixes and 12 fours. He added 162 in 93 balls for the opening stand with Noman (44). Humayun and Mazhar Abbasi remained unbeaten on 26 and 40, respectively. Ijaz Sagheer took 2-33.
Afternoon T20
Nestle Milo, APF, AGA, Jotun Paints, Al-Safri XI and Azizya Elegant emerged winners in the WPCA Afternoon T20 tournament.
Nestle Milo humbled AMI Juffali by 57 runs. Nestle Milo racked up 207-5. Bilal Malik stroked 53 in 30 balls and Fayyaz 24. Sher Bahadur top scored with 78 in 36 balls and Abdullah Zahid made 32. They stitched together 104 in 48 balls. Najam Uzbak claimed 2-27.
AMI Juffali suffered early setbacks. Then a 67-run partnership between Shuboor (31) and Rafi Gujjar (51 in 31 balls) took the team to 150. Zafar scored 17. Ehsan Noni grabbed 3-22, Irfan 2-30 and Imran Sarwar 2-3.
APF downed Marine Services by 6 wickets. APF chased successfully the target of 187-4 on the last ball of the day. Gulzar hit 38 and Usman 45. Ehtesham contributed 25, Mohammed Siddique 23 and Adnan unbeaten 24. APF scored 39 runs from the last 18 balls.
AGA defeated Awesome XI by 6 wickets. Awesome XI posted 168-6 through Khadim (23), Shakir (17), Waqas (23) and Khalil (unbeaten 54 off 32 balls). Shabbir took 2-29.
AGA rushed to 169-4 in 99 balls. Ali made 26, Mohammed 35, Basheer Ahmed 36 and Muzammil unbeaten 42. Inaam took 2-36. Jotun Paints prevailed over UCC by 6 wickets. UCC produced 151-6. Mudassir Raja hit 37, Amer Shahzad 19, Jamil Raja 16 and Ahmed Faraz unbeaten 46. Imran Ali took 2-26 and Akram 2-38.
Jotun Paints stormed to 152-4 in 103 balls. Shabbir belted 38, Mazhar 18, Shafeq Siddiqui unbeaten 43 and Shafiq 16. Shahnawaz Khan took 2-24.
Al-Safri beat Waqas Malik XI by 7 wickets. Waqas XI posted 147-8. Junaid scored 21, Rana Haroon 21, Farid 22, Tauseef 24 and Rashed 27. Abid scalped 2-22 and Waseeq Sherwani 2-32.
Al-Safri was home (148-3) in 82 balls. Rehan blasted an unbeaten 81 in 45 balls with 4 sixes and 7 fours. He added 57 with Saeed Ahmed (21). Muneeb Anwer scored 20. Razzaq took 2-45.
Azizya Elegant won against NAI Juffali by 84 runs. Aziziya Elegant amassed 224-4. Samad Abbas showed awesome touch, blasting an unbeaten 103 in 46 balls with 7 sixes and 8 fours, while Fahad Waseem scored 33, Khalid 17 and Qasim Majed 27. Farzan took 2-38.
NAI Juffali was stranded at 140 for 8. Ashfaque scored 48, Asad 21, Salman 15. Fahad Khasmai grabbed 4-8 and Atif 2-33.
