JEDDAH — Governor Prince Mishaal Bin Majed has ordered a quick referral of those involved in the running of illegal warehouses at Al-Gozain District in the city's south. They included businessmen and citizens who were transferred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIP), in addition to those involved in allowing them to build from the employees of the government agency overseeing the site. The governor has also asked the Jeddah Municipality to rapidly remove these warehouses and to search for suitable alternative sites away from housing districts. Makkah daily learned from sources that the governor sent an urgent letter to the three government agencies, Jeddah Municipality, the BIP and the police, to inquire about the large number of warehouses and the continuation of the construction, which made the people of Al-Gozain neighborhood with a population of about 30,000 file complaints to the governor, especially those that operate warehouses in an illegal manner. The incident is classified as commercial exploitation of land. The sources confirmed that the governor said in his letter to quickly remove these warehouses and hold all those allowing the construction and the owners of the warehouses to be held accountable by BIP. Sources also said that the warehouse owners bought the land without official proof for the construction of warehouses to escape the legal rent payments of warehouses. Some of these warehouses are random and have been receiving electricity in illegally. Walid Al-Jdani, a resident of the area, said that the warehouses transformed the lives of the citizens into nightmares because of the large number of goods and especially fuel, auto parts and equipment. "They lack the means of safety because they operate without permits. There are many warehouses and they exceed 90," said Al-Jidani.
