Among the haute couture brigade on the red carpet, fashion icons and media are looking for new names and upcoming international brands. As many fashionistas are coming to terms with diversity in fashion and embracing different ethnicities as part of their ensemble, many designers are encouraged by the trend to move past the local market and blossom internationally. This week we have picked out six talented designers that have made a mark locally and overseas using their backgrounds to develop their signature style. Even though they come from different walks of life, they create regal and bold designs that make a statement. While some are extremely high fashion, others are celebrating progressive bridal wear. Ashi Studio To begin with, Saudi designer Mohammad Ashi has worked with giants Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy and Elie Saab prior to starting his own label. He is based in Beirut and his high-end brand is now worn by A-list celebrities around the world. IG @ashistudio Shyamal and Bhumika The Ahmedabad based couple created their fashion label incorporating influences from their background, history and travels. Having dressed Bollywood stars, the Indian brand is a fashion week staple and a bridal favourite. IG @shyamalbhumika Fahad Hussayn Born and raised in Faisalabad, Pakistani designer Fahad Hussayn is now based in Lahore where he recently showcased his latest collection. Striking and nostalgic, his collection includes prêt, luxury prêt and bridals. IG @officialfahadhussayn Toga The fashion forward Japanese label is located in Tokyo's famous Harajuku district. Yasuko Furuta's label Toga Archives has made its presence internationally including London Fashion Week and is now available at net-a-porter.com ,matchesfashion.com , Selfridges and Feathers in London. IG @togaarchives Taibo Bacar Mozambique designer, Taibo Bacar founded his label in 2008 and recently won the Emerging Designer of the year at Africa International Fashion Week. He is also the first African designer to exhibit work at Milan fashion week. IG @taibobacar Ziad Nakad Lebanese designer Ziad Nakad made his international debut in 2001, by participating in shows in Milano and Cannes. Nakad is known for his feminine and detailed gowns. Today he is a renowned name in the industry far beyond his hometown.
