Four Asian bootleggers were arrested here on Friday with whiskey bottles hidden in thick socks to muffle the sound of the glass. It all started when the police were tipped off about Asian expatriates behaving suspiciously in downtown Jeddah. The information did not have specific details of their activities. The commander of Makkah Region Police's special task force issued urgent orders for a special team to keep the suspects under surveillance. One of the four men was seen in the backstreets of Sharafiah District carrying a dark sports bag. The field team followed him to a residence where he remained for a few hours. He eventually came out and disappeared. After a short while, another man of the same nationality arrived carrying a similar bag. Then a third and fourth man arrived. Later one of the Asian men came out of the house carrying a similar dark bag. He was arrested and searched. The security men found whisky bottles in thick cotton socks. This man led the officers to the hideout of the three others, who were also nabbed. The four men confessed to selling liquor. They said they sold their contraband on the weekend to make more money. They sold a bottle for as much as SR1,500. Hundreds of whiskey bottles were found at the place. __
