Batsmen shine in WPCA

JEDDAH — Batsmen had the last laugh in the Premier (35-over) and Afternoon (T20) tournaments sponsored and managed by Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) here.
ALS Warriors defeated MCC by 4 wickets. MCC opted to bat first and posted 267 after a rousing start from Khawar Sohail (108 in 74 balls). He added 210 for the opening stand with Naeem (88). MCC slumped from 210 without loss to 267 all out. Amjad Jutt took 4-65 and Ramazan 3-14.
ALS Warriors chased the target of 268 for 6 in 191 balls. Furqan hit 72 in 49 balls and Talha 77 as the two added match-winning 162 for the second wicket. Amjad Jutt remained unbeaten on 50 and Mohammad 19. Khawar Sohail grabbed 2-62.
Al-Saudi XI thrashed Friends XI by 6 wickets. Friends XI won the toss and opted to bat. Abdullah Essa smashed 88 in 80 balls, Anees Malik 28, Saleem 37, Mohammad Azeem 24, Wajahat 19, Junaid 14 not out and Hassan Malik 12 to reach 262. Mazhar Abbasi took 2-30, Adil 2-47 and Mohammad Nadeem 2-49.
Al-Saudi XI was home (263) for the loss of 4 wickets. Nadeem Saad Al-Nadwi blasted 105 off 70 balls with a six and 15 fours. He first added 105 for the 1st wicket with Mazhar Abbasi (34) and then 74 with Umair (44). Mohammed Nadeem remained unbeaten on 32. Hamdan Malik took 2-14.
Afternoon T20
Lothers trounced Awesome XI by 8 wickets. Awesome XI put on 153 for 6 thanks to Rahman making 31, Khadim 29, Ahmed 34 and Waqas 19. Suraj took 3-18. Lothers responded with 155 for 2 as Adarsh remained unbeaten on 53 and Shibu unbeaten on 50. The two added 104 for the unbroken 3rd wicket. Shamsuddin scored 20.
AMI Juffali had the better of Fuchs Alhamrani by 2 wickets. Fuchs lost wickets early (29 for 3) and could manage only 154 for 9. Nasir Khan hit 39, Abdur Rehman 31, Mansoor Ahmed 19 and Fareed 23. Zafar took 3-22, Saboor 3-34 and Usman 2-34. AMI Juffali struggled to achieve the target of 155 for 8 thanks to Nadeem (65 in 32 balls) and Moon Shah (37). Mansoor grabbed 3-25, Mohsin 2-9 and Irfan Anum 2-29.
AGA had the last laugh against OMD Tuskers by 104 runs. AGA piled up 209 for 3 thanks to a fine century by Adnan Khan hammering unbeaten 102 in 49 balls with 15 fours and a six. Humayun made 26 not out, Asghar 22, Ali 23 and Waqas 17. OMD Tuskers, in reply, was restricted to 105 for 8. Mahesh top scored with 42, Adnan 20 and Shafeeq 15. Adnan took 3-9 and Assad took 2-20.
UCC humbled Aziziyah Elegant by 68 runs. UCC racked up 204 for 6 through Raja Mudassar (25), Amir Shahzad (46), Shahnawaz (36), Jameel Raja (21), Ahmed Faraz (26) and Qasim Raja (23). Fahad scalped 2-43. Aziziyah Elegant responded with 136 for 6. Ali Awan scored 20, Ehtesham 28, Fahad Hashmi 27 and Imran Amin 32. Raja Mudassar took 2-6 and Jamil 2-25.
Al-Safri crushed Contraco by 9 wickets. Contraco was bundled out for 95. Shahbaz made 29. Manjeet Kumar claimed 3-12 and Shahzad Asif 3-29. Al-Safri reached 96 for 1 in 42 balls. Muneeb Anwar smashed 51 and Rehan 37 not out as the two added 91 for the 1st wicket.
Harsco Baroom downed Hyderabad Strikers by 5 wickets. Hyderabad Strikers posted 142 for 7. Irfan stroked 33 and Kiran 48. Imran scalped 4-27 and Mujtaba 3-30. Harsco Baroom reached home (143) for the loss of 5 wickets on the last ball thanks to Azam's knock of 72 not out in 47 balls. Mustafa remained unbeaten on 23 and Saqib scored 28 after the team had fallen to 17 for 4.
