Published in The Saudi Gazette on 31 - 12 - 2015

JEDDAH — Aalami Urdu Markaz Jeddah's subsidiary Majlis-e-Iqbal organized a Mushairah and dinner for American-Indian poet Hamid Amrohvi at the residence of Markaz's President Athar Abbasi.
In a select gathering of the poets and intellectuals, Amrohvi was accorded a warm welcome. His heart-rending Naats were lauded by the audience. The program began with the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Qur'an by Qari Muhammad Asif.
Muhammad Nawaz Janjua recited a Naat. Abbasi said a few words about the veteran poet from Amroha, India, and thanked Markaz officials Syed Shahabuddin, Munawwar Bodlah, Hamid Islam Khan, Aziz and others for attending.
Farhat Aziz gave a brief introduction of Amrohvi who lives in Chicago, United States, presently and has come to the Kingdom to perform Umrah. Amrohvi was born in Amroha in 1936. His family is famous for organizing Naatiah Mushairah every Friday for 95 years without any break.
Amrohvi has published many Naat collections. Bodlah an intellectual and official of Majlis-e-Iqbal presented a paper regarding Allama Iqbal's family's perspective that gave birth to such a genius in the field of Urdu and Persian poetry and Islamic philosophy.
A few examples of the Naats of the poets:
Mera safar hai shahre Nabi ki taraf Nawaz
Purnoor raaste men tajalli hai Toor ki (Nawaz Janjua)
Insaan, shajar, hajar sabhi tadpe
hain hijr men
Aashiq her ek phoot ke roya Huzoor ka (Altaf Shahryar)
Jahan mehrab e Athar hai wahin Jannat
ka tukda hai
Karo sajda tumhari lauhe peshani damak utthe (Athar Abbasi)
Apne dushman ki ayadat se gurezan na hue
Kya Masiha the ke khud jaate the beemar ke paas (Mohsin Alavi)
Musafir Uske kooche men andhera
ho nahin sakta
Mere Mahboob ke kooche ka her patthar chamakta hai (Mujahid Syed)
Jub chhidi baat Aap ki yunhi
Meri qismat sanwar gayi yunhi
Kya na dekha khirame naaz Unka
Kya naseem e sahar chali yunhi
Khatm hoti hai jahan sarhade fahmo idrak
Usse aage hai kahin naqshe kafe paa Unka
Uski raahon men main palkon ko bichhaaoon Hamid
Kahin miljaye agar dekhne wala Unka
Nabi ke ghulamon men naam aayega
Agar jazbe dil hai to kaam aayega
Koi jub na kaam aayega hashr men
Karam Unka Hamid ke kaam aayega (Hamid Amrohvi)
After the Naatiyah session, the poets participated in the open Mushairah. Muhammad Nawaz Janjua, Altaf Shahryar, Mahtab Qadr, Athar Abbasi, Mujahid Syed and Hamid Amrohvi recited their poems.
