JEDDAH — Aalami Urdu Markaz, Jeddah's President Athar Nafis Abbasi held a Suhoor reception for Pakistani-American humorist and satirist poet Khalid Irfan at his residence Sunday. Irfan, a popular humorist of North America has five poetry collections to his credit, lives in New York City. He is incharge of the literary section of Urdu Times Weekly, New York, America's first and largest weekly Urdu newspaper. Anwar Ansari shed light on Irfan's life and poetic contributions. Abbasi said that he is proud of his relations with Irfan from Karachi since childhood, revealing that he showed poetic talents from his teenage years. “Khalid Irfan, being a follower of famous humorist Dilawar Figar's line, deserves our love and attention. He like Dilawar Figar highlights the daily problems of the people in his poetry and that is more acceptable to people than the speeches of political leaders,” he said. Local poets Zamurrad Khan Saifee, Muhammad Nawaz Janjua, Nasir Barni, Anwer Ansari, Athar Abbasi and Nayeem Bazidpuri also recited their poems.
