Gibson makes 25 saves to lift Ducks
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 02 - 12 - 2015

After taking the weekend to think about the two-goal lead they squandered late against the Chicago Blackhawks, the struggling Anaheim Ducks were determined to focus on the things they did well against the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Anaheim certainly looked like a team starting to figure things out while it pummeled the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 Monday night for its most emphatic win of the season.
John Gibson made 25 saves for his third career shutout, and Shawn Horcoff, Rickard Rakell, Jakob Silfverberg and Corey Perry scored as Anaheim won for only the second time in its last five games.
"I thought we played a really good game against Chicago. It was a tough pill to swallow, but we got back the next day, we talked about what we did well and thought we figured something out there," Horcoff said.
Ryan Miller stopped 25 shots while Vancouver was shut out for the first time this season.
Rangers 4, Hurricanes 3: The New York Rangers jumped to a three-goal lead and survived a strong push from the
Carolina Hurricanes in a 4-3 victory at Madison Square Garden that snapped a three-game losing streak.
Goals from Derick Brassard, Oscar Lindberg, Chris Kreider and Mats Zuccarello proved just enough for goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who made 33 saves.
Islanders 5, Avalanche 3: Cal Clutterbuck scored the tie-breaking goal 1:52 into the third period and Casey Cizikas added an unassisted goal less than seven minutes later as the New York Islanders beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 at Barclays Center.
Clutterbuck scored seconds after Cizikas won a faceoff in front of the Avalanche net. The puck found its way to defenseman Thomas Hickey, whose shot was redirected by Clutterbuck.
Maple Leafs 3, Oilers 0: Garret Sparks made 24 saves to earn a shutout in his NHL debut as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-0.
The Maple Leafs victory behind a goaltender called up from the American Hockey League Toronto Marlies ended their three-game losing streak. It was Toronto's first shutout of the season.
