Winners of King Khalid Prize announced; awards ceremony on Dec. 8
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 11 - 2015

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman will distribute King Khalid Prize 2015 to the winners during a colorful ceremony in Riyadh on Dec. 8. Asir Emir Prince Faisal Bin Khalid, chairman of the prize committee, announced the winners of the prize in the three categories — Partners in Development; Excellence in Non-Profit Organizations, and Responsible Competition — at a press conference here. He congratulated the winners and hoped the prize would encourage them to make greater contributions to society.
The prince highlighted the prize's positive impact on boosting developmental and humanitarian activities, supporting knowledge and capacity building and promoting initiatives that would benefit society and accelerate national growth.
Abeer Abdulaziz Al-Nuwaisser won the top prize in "Partners in Development Category" for the third consecutive year for her "Mawakib Al-Ajr" initiative after she received 61 percent of votes from the public through the King Khalid Foundation's website.
Prince Khalid commended Al-Nuwaisser for her successful initiative that focuses on collecting second-hand goods, including furniture and toys, and selling them to people having limited income at nominal rates. Proceeds from the sales will be used to support social and humanitarian projects. The initiative also contributes to environment protection endeavors.
The initiative to employ people of special needs, supervised by Ahmed Al-Malki, won the second prize while the initiative of Noun Educational Group run by Dr. Saud Al-Dubyan got the third prize for promoting educational and scientific videos.
The top winner in this category will receive a cash award of SR250,000 while the second place winner will receive SR150,000 and the third place winner SR100,000.
Prince Khalid said Al-Bir Charitable Society in Al-Ahsa won first prize in non-profit organizations category, adding that the charity was picked for the prize considering its health, educational and relief services that benefited more than 35,000 people, including those with special needs.
The second prize in the category went to the Charitable Society for the Care of Orphans in the Eastern Province while the third prize went to Majed Bin Abdulaziz Society for Development and Social Services. The winners will receive SR500,000, SR300,000 and SR200,000 respectively.
"Two employees of the first prize winner will get scholarships for higher education in administrative development and leadership courses," the prince said.
Speaking about winners in the third category, he said they were selected based on their performance in the Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Index.
Binzagr Unilever Ltd won the top prize while Saudi Investment Bank received the second prize. The third prize was shared by Saudi Fertilizer Company (Safco), Special Direction and Middle East Paper Company (Mepco).
