JEDDAH — Khalidia Tambayz of coach Ronnie Carino defeated Avengers 104-100 in the finals of the PEAK-JBL Basketball Tournament and bagged the Group B championship Trophy at the Al Baik basketball court in Khalidia District here. The loser almost won Game 2 but the winner maintained its composure in the dying seconds for its back-to-back JBL title. Calaunan top scored with 28 points for the winner and was adjudged the PEAK Sodas Sports best player of the game. Geniza had 28 points for the loser. This tournament is principally sponsored by PEAK Sodas Sports and Shoe Arena with the support of Mandhoubiyah Islamic Propagation Office, Jeddah Dawah Center, Deepvision Advertising Company (Wil Escanan) and Bro Mousa Ignacio. NRF of coach Gerry Acosta beat Manila Zago 117-109 for the Group A championship. Ali chipped in with 46 points for NRF and was named the JBL best player of the game. Samson scored 27 points for the loser. RJW Juf Wed Group of Ric Santos and Jose Cepeda beat Desert Warriors 95-90 to emerge champion in the 40 & above division. Khobre and Padilla led the winner with 21 points apiece and were selected as the PEAK Sodas Sports best players of the game. Cainilla scored 25 points for the loser. Meanwhile, Fame Gensoul Basketball Club opened its 3rd season basketball tournament. Twenty participating teams paraded during the opening ceremony which was graced by coach Sam Sabangan, Edwin Gonzales and Joel Silvestre. Blue team beat Red 23-20 in the Midgets Division, Yellow defeated Blue 52-51 in the Juniors Division and Black beat Blue 75-66 in overtime in the Parents Division.
