Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Some 54 neighborhoods of Jeddah will be renovated to give the city a clean look, according to a source at Makkah Municipality. "The renovation project will start with the Khuzam area which includes four neighborhoods. The total area of the neighborhoods under renovation is around 3.7 million sq. meters. The project also includes Al-Sabeel, Al-Nujlah, Al-Yamaniyah and part of Al-Balad and Al-Qurayyat," said the source. "The Khuzam area covers 55 percent of the renovation project. These neighborhoods do not follow construction regulations. The roads are randomly designed," said the source, adding that renovation projects at Al-Ruwais and other neighborhoods are already under progress. "The municipality has already razed 720 buildings," said the source. The project aims to offer all-inclusive residential areas where all services and facilities are within reach. "In south Jeddah, there are junkyards where plastic bottles are dumped. By cleaning up these junkyards, the city will have a lot of empty space for new constructions," said the source. The old industrial area north of Jeddah will also be renovated. "A new industrial area has been developed in Asfan, but the old area is in extremely poor condition. "It tarnishes the image of the city for visitors coming from the north such as Madinah. Discarded vehicles dumped like litter are an eyesore," said the source.
