Jeddah Municipality has launched a new waste dump in the northern part of the city where many massive projects are under construction. Built on an area of one million square meters, the new dump was designed to contain some three million cubic meters of construction process waste. Ibrahim Siba'a, director general of the coordination department at the municipality, on Tuesday announced that the dump was now ready to hold construction waste. “The goal of having such a dump is to collect waste resulting from the infrastructure works of the huge projects in the area,” he said. He added that the waste of King Abdullah Economic City used to be thrown randomly in the desert or in adjacent areas. “The new Thuwal Dump is provided with a sufficient number of workers and supervisors assigned to oversee the work process inside the dump. It has all the necessary equipment and communication devices,” he said. He also added that the new dump can hold the waste from projects that may even extend to Rabegh city. Siba'a cautioned all construction companies working in the area against throwing their building waste elsewhere. “We would like to urge all contractors and companies in the north Jeddah area to stick to using this dump. Severe penalties will be imposed against violators,” he said.
