Development at the Central Area is the biggest ongoing project in Al-Baha city. Old buildings are being demolished to build a new city center. The architecture has been designed to reflect local culture with a touch of modernity. Once completed, the area will be a bustling district of activity around the clock. The project has taken into consideration economic, social and security interests. Current population of the Central Area in Al-Baha, which has an area of 400 hectares, is about 26,000. The population is expected to reach 40,000 in 2028. Al-Baha's mayoralty has started developing the Central Area, which was neglected till now. The current roads are unable to accommodate the increasing traffic. The total population of Al-Baha is expected to reach 139,000 from its current 85,000. The Central Area has 216 plots of land of which 5.56 percent are public property. The rest belong to private owners. An agreement has been reached to either expropriate the property by granting compensation or hire it on lease.
