operation Council (GCC) Ministers of Interior have agreed in principle to establish a Gulf police force. The police commanders of the GCC countries are to meet to look into the subject and will present their views to the GCC ministries of interior. The ministers also approved the formation of a permanent security committee.?It will be concerned with industrial security and protecting vital?installations. The ministers also stressed “the importance of updating?and developing security agreements between member countries.”? The ministers confirmed that the GCC countries stand together in?rejecting terrorism and extremism in all forms. They welcomed the?launching of the UN Center for Combating Terrorism in New York, which was first proposed by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, during the international conference for combating terrorism hosted by Saudi Arabia in February 2005. They expressed hope that “this center would contribute toward addressing the causes of terrorism, uproot?and combat the phenomenon, as well as boost international efforts to?support global security, stability and peace.”? The GCC Interior Ministers condemned the plan to assassinate the?Kingdom's ambassador to Washington. They denounced it as “a blatant?violation that is rejected by all international laws, agreements and?norms.” They also insisted they are ready to stand by the Kingdom in?any measures it might take.? The ministers lauded “the limitless support by Qatar for the GCC?Criminal Information Center for Combating Drugs and the vigilance of?the Saudi security authorities and their success in arresting many?people involved in smuggling and drug trafficking and uncovering?their tricks to smuggle them.”? The Kingdom delegation was led by the Deputy Minister?of Interior, Prince Ahmad Bin Abdul Aziz.??He said: “The meeting focused on threats around us which require us to?fortify our societies to face the plots, intrigues and interventions?aimed at undermining security and stability.”??He called on the countries to speed up mechanisms of cooperation and?coordination to these situations and challenges.??Prince Ahmed said: “For a long time, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has suffered from different forms of terrorism and was?targeted by criminals who have lost their way and worked with the?devil to destroy the country's capabilities and destabilization of our?region.”?? He said: “But the Kingdom, with the help of Almighty Allah, was able to?confront these criminals and their thought, and foil many of their?terrorist plots. The Kingdom also played a leading role in combating the drug?problem which seriously damages the individual and society.”?? However, he said, though the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is part of an?international and regional coalition to fight terrorism and drugs, it?cannot achieve its objective individually.?? He urged “the GCC countries to make a concerted effort to fight?threats to their security and homelands.”? The ministers congratulated Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz for the trust?bestowed upon him by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in choosing him as Crown Prince and appointing him Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior. They “prayed to Almighty Allah to grant him success in bearing the trust, help him and provide him good health.”? They also reviewed their coordination against the fast tempo of the?latest regional and global security developments which impact upon the?security and stability of the GCC countries. They expressed?“satisfaction over the accomplishments and steps to boost the joint?security work among GCC countries.” ? The announcements were made at the 30th meeting of the Interior?Ministers of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States, Wednesday.? The meeting was held against the backdrop of sensitive regional situation and accelerating variables in the region.??
