Three female students were killed and ten others wounded in a road accident in Jizan Tuesday, barely 48 hours after a similar accident in Hail took the lives of 12 female students. Tuesday's tragedy happened as students were returning to their homes from college. Brig. Hassan Ali Al-Qafili, Director of Jizan Civil Defense, said the accident occurred when a speeding pickup car hit the student's minivan from behind and caused it to tip over and drag for about 60 meters. The ten injured students were rushed to Beesh General Hospital and Al-Darb Hospital where an emergency was declared. Jibreel Qabi, Jizan Health Affairs spokesman, said six students have been referred to other hospitals while two cases are still in Beesh Hospital. Two critical cases have been referred to King Fahd Hospital in Jizan. Authorities informed the parents of the three dead students; some of them broke down and lost consciousness, sources said. Parents of students at Jizan and Sabia have demanded action be taken to halt the rising death toll on the roads to colleges. Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Jizan region, is being kept informed on all developments and the state of the injured students, sources said.
