The National Water Company (NWC) has formed an integrated plan to supply water to Makkah and the holy sites. This plan will ensure that the massive water requirements of pilgrims are met. “Work on the two new water treatment plants in south Makkah at Al-Arnanyia Valley has been completed and each plant's capacity is 250,000 cubic meters daily,” said Abdullah Bin Ahmad Hussein, Director of NWC's Makkah unit. The old and new Shoibia Water Plants currently supply Makkah with 600,000 cubic meters of water everyday and a reserve is kept full at the desalination plants around the year. In response to the Emir of Makkah‘s wishes, the NWC has coordinated with the authorities involved to ensure a 24-hour water supply for pilgrims. “There are mega water projects being implemented in Makkah and they are expected to be fully operational in the new fiscal year,” Hussein said.
