The National Water Company (NWC) is scheduled to start on Aug. 11 the test-run for the SR370-million Airport 1 Tertiary Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment of sewage water in Jeddah. The NWC said the test-run will be conducted in stages starting with 60 cubic meters daily until the maximum capacity of 250,000 cubic meters per day is reached. The plant will receive wastewater from districts of northern Jeddah. The NWC pointed out that the project includes measures for drying up the sewage lake in eastern Jeddah. The company's 25-km transmission line from the site to the plant will have a daily capacity of 120,000 cubic meters. The SR120 million project has an execution period of six months. The plant will treat wastewater from the sewage lake and use the treated water to irrigate the mayoralty's Green Forests Project. The company is also extending Jeddah Mayoralty's one-km transmission line from east of the highway to the new plant. The NWC is one of the first local companies to succeed in implementing a program to expedite stalled projects. The program has proved a success in water and wastewater projects in Riyadh and Jeddah. Measures include paying contractors in instalments and intervening with suppliers to deal with any issues with contractors. The program's objectives include ensuring that projects do not stop and urging contractors to develop work-management plans to execute projects.
