The National Water Company (NWC) has increased the water supply to Jeddah homes to one million cubic meters a day with the prime beneficiaries being households to the southeast of the Haramain Highway. The NWC said that Al-Muntazahaat, areas to the north and south of Al-Mustaqbal Square, Al-Basateen, Eastern Al-Sulaimaniya, Jak Street in the Quwaiza district, as well as Al-Rayah, Obaid Al-Mutairi, Al-Shalwi, and Kilo 14, all of which were previously supplied with water every 30 days, will now receive a continuous supply. Areas to the northeast of the highway, meanwhile, will see improvements with a gradually-increasing feed from Quwaiza reservoirs eventually turning into a constant supply. Water was previously supplied to those areas every 10 days. The rise in supply from 850,000 cubic meters to one million has been achieved, the NWC said, through the Saline Water Conversion Corporation and its Al-Shuaiba desalination plant which produces 150,000 cubic meters a day. A total of 8.3 million cubic meters of water is needed all over the Kingdom until the year 2025, according to Fehied Bin Fahd Al-Sharif, Governor of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC). New water plants are going to be constructed to ensure that supply meets demand. The third phase of the water conveying system from the Shoaiba Plant in Makkah will be completed before the end of the year.
