An expatriate seeking Saudi citizenship was cheated by a trio of fraudsters — two Saudis and a Yemeni — to the tune of SR5 million. The trio entered into an agreement with the expatriate to help him get the citizenship for a total payment of SR11 million, according to a Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP) dossier submitted to the Summary Court in Jeddah recently, judicial sources said. The prosecution, according to sources, submitted evidence from 50 individuals to indict the three suspects. Moreover, the confession of the three men that they had received the amount as first payment was also presented to the court. The BIP said the expatriate identified one of the culprits. The trio convinced the expatriate that he was eligible to apply for citizenship because he was born in Saudi Arabia. After waiting for years, the expatriate pressed the three men to fulfill their promise or return the money he had paid. After getting no response, the expatriate approached the police who investigated and detained the three and referred them to prosecution. The court is to hear the case in two weeks, sources added.
