A leading official in Jeddah Mayoralty is facing charges of causing deaths and destruction of properties during the floods that wreaked havoc on the city last year. The official is among three persons accused in the case whose dossiers were received by the District Court in Jeddah in preparation for their trial. The court decided to look into the case next week, judicial sources told Okaz/Saudi Gazette. The Control and Investigation Board (CIB) and the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP) started investigating the accused in the Jeddah flood disaster in implementation of the Royal Order issued on May 11, 2010. Informed sources told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the charge sheet prepared by the Prosecutor General demands stiffest deterrent penalties against the three accused. According to the sources, the court will look into the public rights in the lawsuits and not into the private rights. The sources disclosed that separate files have been prepared for the accused for their trial in the Board of Grievances and General Court in other cases including taking bribes, monetarily benefiting from their posts, abuse of power and money laundering. The sources also said that work is on to scrutinize the dossiers of other accused persons so as to separate the files related to the flood disaster and rest of the charges. They pointed out that the committee tasked with investigating the flood disaster has uncovered involvement of several officials in other violations not related to the floods. __
