Police at the Corniche in Al-Hamra stopped traffic and cordoned off sections of the district on Monday to round up persons renting out horses and quad bikes to visitors to the beach area. The activities have been banned for health and safety reasons, and police noted that “most of the workers” involved were “illegal immigrants who had overstayed the permitted time of their visas and are in violation of labor laws”. “Some of them have also been involved in acts of theft,” police said. They did not disclose how many persons were arrested or the number of vehicles confiscated.
