Despite the efforts exerted to confront domestic violence against women and children, several incidents indicate that there is still a lot to be done to put an end to the problem. There are those who fear that the future is likely to see a continuation, if not an increase, of domestic violence as new factors emerge that could upset family relations as life becomes more complicated. In confronting the problem two measures must be studied very carefully. The first is to set strict regulations that define domestic violence according to degree and then stipulate sanctions against those proven guilty of inflicting harm to the usual victims - son, daughter or wife. The sanctions must be implemented to prevent those prone to abuse their wives and their children from repeating the offense and to ensure that justice and peace pevail in the family. The other measure is to launch a national campaign to raise public awareness about the problem of domestic violence, including its consequence. Domestic violence is not only a family problem but also a social concern. Those who harm their families, especially the children, must realize that domestic violence breeds resentment among the victims who may develop behaviors that deviate from the healthy social norms. Often, children who are abused by their parents develop pent-up hatred in their hearts, grow rebellious and tend to hurt other people. This behavior may later lead them to crime. It is for this reason that parents must protect their children and show them love so that they will grow up into responsible and productive adults. This is necessary for developing a healthy and productive society. __
