Three days after the start of the school year, administrators of the Ahad Al-Masareha Elementary School for Girls in Jizan, which needs a considerable amount of work, evacuated 200 students after water leaks in ceilings caused electrical short circuits. School officials called Civil Defense teams who inspected the electrical problems. The building of the school, located in an unplanned area, is dilapidated, its walls are full of cracks; tables, chairs and restrooms need to be repaired or replaced; and hygiene is poor. The Ministry of Education recently announced that all schools in Jizan are ready for the new academic year. Muhammad Rayan, Educational and Media director at the Department of Education in Jizan, did not respond to phone calls and text messages.
