The political upheavals in Egypt will never affect the strong relations between Riyadh and Cairo. Any endeavors – as manifested in the spiteful attempts to burn the Saudi Embassy in Egypt – to create a crack or a rift in these solid relations will never work. The perpetrators ignored what the Kingdom means for Egypt and what Egypt means for the Kingdom. What was done by them is nothing but pure miscalculations, because they don't know the significance and depth of these relations and their implications for the Arab and the Muslim Ummah. The Saudi-Egyptian ties enjoy a set of unique characteristics and objectives seen in their very distinguished status and huge potential on the Arab and Muslims and international levels. On the regional level, history shows that the two countries share the big responsibility to realize the Arab solidarity and achieve the aspired for goals for all Arab nations. The strong Saudi-Egyptian relations serve all Arab countries as Egypt and Saudi Arabia adopt sincere, credible and responsible policies free of ambitions. The late King Abdul Aziz, founder of Saudi Arabia, realized the importance of the Saudi-Egyptian relations when he said: “Arabs are in need of Egypt, and Egypt is in need of the Arabs.” Therefore, he was keen to establish solid relations with Egypt after the foundation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932. It should also be understood that Saudi Arabia is a non-aligned state whose foreign policy objectives are to defend general Arab and Islamic interests and promote solidarity among Islamic countries. Significant numbers of Egyptians earn their livelihood in Saudi Arabia, contributing approximately $1.5 billion in remittances. Egyptian-Saudi trade exchange hits $3.343 billion with Egyptian exports to Saudi Arabia amounting to $1.330 billion while imports from the Kingdom are up to $2.13 billion. The volume of trade is expected to hit $5 billion, and the coming period is expected to witness further cooperation in the trade and investment spheres between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. __
