The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has written to the president of the Consumer Protection Association (CPA) and instructed him to prove that he and his deputy are working full-time for the organization, officials said. If they cannot do so, the ministry will convene a General Assembly meeting to choose a new chairman and deputy chairman, the officials added. Saleh Al-Khaleel, undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Consumer Affairs, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the ministry supports CPA and does not hinder its work. He stressed, though, that Article 16 of the CPA regulation stipulates that the chairman and his deputy must work full-time in those positions. “We asked them to provide us with proof that they are working full-time,” he said. “We received a letter from the president that shows he was relieved from being a member of the teaching staff at King Saud University, but he has not provided us with proof that he has left other posts.” Al-Khaleel stressed that the regulation is clear and that there will be no problems with their employment if the documentation is provided. “When the president-elect and his deputy provide us with proof they have left the other posts, attestation of their selection won't be delayed.” __
