The work of the Consumer Protection Association (CPA) to help the consumer should not be hampered, warned Prince Muhammad Bin Saud Bin Naif, the body's Honorary President. Prince Muhammad voiced his total support for the CPA's elected Board of Directors and said they were working day and night to prepare a road map to tackle all the problems affecting consumers for years, Al-Madina Arabic newspaper said on Monday Prince Muhammad hoped the Ministry of Commerce and Industry would support the CPA in implementing its ambitious programs. “It is not a ripe time for imposing guardianship, settling scores and dictating conditions which don't serve the public interest.” Prince Muhammad said the association has the support of the highest authority in the country. He said civil society institutions are important in helping government achieve the reforms initiated by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. He called on other bodies to support the work of the CPA. Prince Muhammad pointed to the CPA's 70 programs as proof of its concern for the health, safety and finances of consumers. “As I oversee the performance and activities of the association, I can tell you that it has a well-defined work agenda for consumers which differs qualitatively and quantitatively from the traditional programs of bureaucratic bodies.” He thanked the association's elected chairman and his team for drawing up a road map and its more than 70 programs. He said the CPA chairman and members should be excused for delaying addressing consumers because they have been busy working on guidelines for the Prince Naif Prize for the Consumer, the Smart Prices Index, Social Communication Site for the association, Prince Naif Chair for Consumer Studies, Digital Accreditation Center, Consumer Complaints Center and many others projects which will be announced in due course.
