More than 500 student scouts and campers will participate in the 81st National Day celebrations and the 2nd Camp for World Peace, which begins on Sept. 19 at the King Abdullah University for Science and Technology. Activities will be organized by the Saudi Arabian Scouts Association and directed by Dr. Ali Bin Nasser Al-Ghafis, Governor of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation. “The National Day has a significant historical importance; it is an honorable day of the Kingdom,” said Dr. Al-Ghafis, according to a statement reported by the Saudi Press Agency. One must not forget the crucial role played by King Abdul Aziz, the founder of the Kingdom, in unifying the country, which has become a symbol of unity and integration of the government that runs on the rules of Shariah, he added. “This national commemoration makes us proud of our religion, leadership and sacred sites,” he said. The 2nd Camp for World Peace, which will host scouts from different countries, must be celebrated in a way to show the world its significance, Dr. Al-Ghafis added. A preparatory meeting, led by Dr. Rashid Bin Muhammad Al-Zahrani, Chairman of Technical and Vocational Training Council in Makkah region, was held to discuss the activities of TVTC scouts and campers at the Jeddah camp. “The TVTC will offer specialized and professional technical courses for scouts coming from different parts of the world,” said Capt. Khaled Bin Ali Al-Hamli, Supervisor of TVTC scouts activities. Captain Al-Hamli added that the TVTC scouts will carry out activities to benefit the community such as painting crosswalks and removing graffiti from walls. The scouts will also work to maintain old historical sites in Jeddah and work on houses of poor families, and visits to archeological and tourist sites in Makkah will be organized. Indoor activities will include the National Cultural Day, which focuses the Kingdom's history; dialogue programs, in cooperation with King Abdul Aziz Center for National Dialogue; the National Technical Exhibition, which focuses on the Kingdom's industrial and technological developments during the reign of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
