A mission from the Islamic Development Bank here has left for the Somali capital Mogadishu to follow up with the distribution of SR3.75 million worth relief supplies it recently transported for the drought-stricken people there. The mission will be executed in cooperation with six charity organizations that are delivering food, including milk powder and flour, to about 17,800 families in different governorates of Somalia. The Al-Awn Al-Mubashir Society, Mu'een Foundation, Al-Tawfiq, Al-Manhal Relief Foundation, Union of Arab Physicians in Egypt and Zamzam Foundation are helping with the effort. The IDB has approved a total of SR8.25 million in grants for food, medical supplies, and drilling and rehabilitating water wells in famine-hit areas. The Arafat and Madina hospitals in Mogadishu have been provided with medical supplies and work is underway to coordinate with three relief organizations to transport food and medicine to regions near the Somali-Kenyan borders. The Al-Awn Al-Mubashir Society, the Union of Arab Physicians in Egypt and Zamzam Foundation are working with the Islamic Development Bank to provide the supplies.
