To deal with the high consumption in summer and Ramadan, the National Water Company (NWC) plans to pump more than one million cubic meters of water daily to the city's districts from the desalination plants in Al-Faisaliya, Quwaizah and Wadi Khalais, said Saleah Sadawi, the NWC's Director. Sadawi, who is also Director of Projects, said the company has endorsed an operational plan for Jeddah during this period, including ensuring the network is administered according to the SCADA is a centralized system used to monitor and control entire sites. He said the plan includes ensuring an increase in water pressure in some areas, boosting water storage capacity and intensifying detection of visible and invisible water leakages. He said the company has redesigned and restructured water distribution process to ensure reliable and steady supply to customers in summer and Ramadan. There is also a plan to increase pumping of water to the Quwaizah reservoirs. He said water and sanitation drainage network in Jeddah will be administrated using the SCADA System under which all pressure meters in the network will be monitored round-the-clock. He said a new reservoir with a storage capacity of 90,000 cubic meters has been constructed in Quwaizah District. In addition, four new reservoirs, each with a capacity of 140,000 cubic meters are being constructed in Bariman to increase the strategic water reserve in the region. Despite these measures, there are still water shortages in some areas, including the populous Al-Nassim District and many undeveloped districts. Mousa Hassan, a resident of Al-Nassim said, “The district has been suffering from a shortage of water for more than 10 days. Residents contacted the authorities concerned at NWC who explained that the company's maintenance team is carrying out some work on the network and promised that they would resume pumping water before Ramadan.” Ahmad Mehaboub, who resides in a poor district in South Jeddah, said that many districts in his area suffer from a shortage of water. __
