The Saudi National Water Company (SNWC) has revealed its plans to mitigate against water shortages in Jeddah during the summer period. Abdullah Al-Assaf, Director of the NWC in Jeddah, said on Sunday that the distribution of water would be conducted throughout the city every six days by the middle of July, with additional quantities of up to 180,000 cubic meters per day supplied by the Al-Shuaiba 3 plant and 10,000 cubic meters from Wadi Khulais. The NWC has also installed 75 water flow measuring systems and 200 pressure meters in inner-city districts to be linked to a central operations room overseeing the efficiency of the network. The city has been divided into 51 distribution zones, Al-Assaf said, with works in four of them to improve performance expected to be completed by the end of next month. Al-Assaf added that an NWC maintenance program had begun at water distribution stations for improvements to pumps, electrical systems and other areas. Daily output is estimated to reach a high of 235,000, with the exception of Ramadan when 250,000 cubic meters of water will be produced each day. Al-Assaf noted that the NWC had launched its “water tanker delivery” service which can be reached at toll-free telephone number 8004411110.
