A total of 1,083,602 citizens will be able to vote in the upcoming Sep. 29 municipal council elections, out of 1,197,174 who registered, according to Judai Bin Nahar Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the General Committee for Municipal Elections. The final list was compiled after excluding the deceased and other citizens who did not qualify, he added. Challenges and objections were dealt with under the Law of Electoral Challenges which consists of 19 articles, Al-Qahtani said. These articles set out the criteria used to form electoral committees and its tasks in dealing with any challenges and objections, according to a report in Al-Hayat. “The committees report directly to Prince Dr. Mansour Bin Miteb Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, to ensure impartiality and neutrality. The Prince's decision stipulates that each committee should be assigned to a separate area.” Al-Qahtani indicated that these committees have carefully reviewed all challenges and objections and then issued their decisions.
