Okaz/Saudi GazetteJEDDAH: The Human Rights Commission (HRC) tried to expel a female journalist from its workshop in Asir recently because she had no official letter. The HRC asked her to leave thrice but she refused, saying that she knew her rights and as a Saudi woman no one had the right to throw her out. The journalist, Hayat Al-Ghamdi, said she attended the event after getting an invitation from supervisor of the HRC's programs in Asir, Abdullah Al-Faifi. Al-Faifi confirmed the invitation on phone and asked her to attend the workshop Tuesday morning. He also asked her to participate in the making of a documentary the commission intends to produce on the workshop. “It is a violation of human rights perpetrated by a body that is hoping to confront domestic violence in Saudi society,” Hayat Al-Ghamdi said about the expulsion attempt. The commission must enroll its employees in courses to learn how to deal with others, she added. She said that Fathiya Al-Qurashi, Director of the HRC's women's branch in Makkah Region, intervened and resolved the issue. Al-Qurashi said the problem occurred when the journalist made a mistake in seating allocated for journalists at the hall. __
