MADINA: An Ethiopian woman leading a group of other women from her country ran a brothel in her apartment on the roof of a building in Al-A'midah District and held parties with unrelated men, according to officials. Patrols from the Criminal Investigations Unit in the Madina Passports Department raided the site and shut it down after being tipped that men and women frequented the building's roof late at night, committed numerous immoral acts including illicit seclusion and using banned substances. They used to leave the place before sunrise, officials said. Information received by authorities indicated that a woman named Haneen, known as “Umm Shamah,” ran the suspicious place and allowed its use for unlawful activities, according to officials. At the zero hour, security authorities surrounded the location and busted the brothel; several security men were present to make sure no suspects would escape. The operation resulted in the arrest of 10 women and four men, one of whom tried to hide in the water tank, while others tried to hide under beds and behind sofas. The Passports Department's four-hour campaign moved on to the districts of Al-Rawdha, Al-Ijabah and Qurban, and resulted in the arrest of 65 illegal residents including hawkers, infiltrators, runaway workers and suspected forgers.
