JEDDAH: A Saudi woman drove her car for around an hour in Jeddah Monday without being stopped, Al-Hayat Arabic daily reported Tuesday. Businesswoman Najla' Hariri told Al-Hayat that she drove her parents to a restaurant in the Al-Rawdha District of the city and returned home via Madina Road without encountering any issues from either the public or the police. “Social networking sites have an unofficial template of a national driving license application form which they ask supporters of women driving to fill in,” Hariri said. “I was the first to be happy to fill it in.” A member of the pro-women driving “I Will Drive Myself” campaign who preferred to remain anonymous told the newspaper that 1,759 Saudi women and around 400 men had filled in the form.
