FAIFA: Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser, Emir of Jizan, has said that the mountainous southern region of Faifa possesses “all the characteristics for classification as a province”. “It is an extremely wide region and well-known, and a tourist destination for a great many visitors from across the Kingdom,” Prince Muhammad said on a tour of the area Monday. Inaugurating development projects worth over SR753 million, the Emir said that awarding Faifa province status was “under consideration”. “The mountains of Faifa have not previously been as involved in the development process as much as we would like, but there are plans in place that have approval from the ministerial committee and been submitted to King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques,” he said. “Other side committees will meet with the main committee soon and approve what was proposed many years ago for the removal of qat fields and their replacement with alternative crops.” On his tour Prince Muhammad also launched the first phase of a water project worth SR54 million and laid the foundation stone for the second phase, projected to cost SR46 million. The Emir also opened new road works and looked at plans for a variety of other infrastructure projects.
