JEDDAH: The Saudi Arabian Chefs Association (SACA) is planning to enter a team of chefs at the upcoming international Culinary Olympics, said Yasser Jad, president of the body. The senior Saudi chef was talking to Saudi Gazette exclusively on the sidelines of the food exhibition at the Jeddah exhibition center. “We need to participate in the Olympics to increase our experience. We have already registered as a member of the World Association of Chef Societies (WACS),” Jad said. This is the third time Saudi chefs have participated in the food cooking competition at the Jeddah exhibition. A total of 33 young Saudi chefs registered for the competition. Some of them had previously participated in the last competition hosted by the MBC TV channel. “I am very proud of Saudi chefs because some of them even got to supervise the meals on airlines, said Jad. Each winner of different 17 categories will receive a gold medal which has the logo of the WACS. He said Saudis are judging the competition. He added that Saudi female chefs are also involved and are quite skillful. “This year about 10 ladies participated in the salon category making royal cakes.” Jad said he also wants a category in the competition for people who have taken up cooking as a hobby. This will hopefully attract more talent, he said.
