JEDDAH: The Ministry of Education and the Saudi Environment Society are scheduled to sign an agreement Tuesday to hold environmental and sustainable development programs at schools across the country. The agreement is part of the National Program for Environment Awareness and Education which is being carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Education. So far the project has been taken to 300 schools resulting in the training of 21,000 students and 10,000 teachers of both genders. Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, the General President of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) and Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah Bin Muhammad, Minister of Education, will sign the agreement. Under the agreement the program's activities will be executed across the Kingdom at all government boys and girls primary, intermediate and secondary schools. Prince Nawaf Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, the society's Executive Manager, said they have adopted an Islamic approach in their efforts to protect the environment. The organization is also applying the Council of Ministers' General Environment System aimed at achieving sustainable development. He said he wants to see all sectors of society involved in the protection of the environment.
