The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, other kings, presidents, their highnesses, heads of States, prime ministers and leaders of delegations of Islamic countries concluded Wednesday evening at Al-Safa palace here, the two-day extraordinary Islamic Solidarity Summit. Following are excerpts of Makkah Charter read by the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu upon request of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud: 'We, Kings, Presidents and Emirs of the member countries of the OIC, thank Allah Almighty for facilitating our meeting in this holy place and these most blessed days of the holy month of Ramadan in the vicinity of the House of Allah in Makkah, the cradle of the Islamic message to humanity which laid the foundation stone for the Islamic civilization enriching the entire human civilization, especially its call for justice and peace. We hereby inculcate the noble principles of the eternal message of Islam to tackle today's affairs. Recalling the goals and basic principles upon which OIC was established, and how our countries enjoyed peace and security where there is no place for extremism and fanaticism, we find ourselves today facing different situations, varied goals, faded values, numerous injustices, and the failure of a civilized structure. A painful reality marred by discord and a lot of seditions, in which the Islamic world is faced with threats of dispersion and repulsion, and the continuity of hostility between the Muslims themselves. The ethnic and religious diversity has become a burden on us, a cause for rivalry, and a justification for intervention in the affairs of each other rather than a source of enrichment. This serious and painful reality requires us to be honest with ourselves and our nation to achieve its aspirations of justice, dignity, development and strength. At the same time, we have to be aware of our mission to reform this nation and develop plans and programs to achieve its renaissance, restoration of solidarity, to enable it to meet the challenges facing it. This wouldn't be achieved without the joint endeavor to rebuild this nation on the right path, according to the principles and methods that are enshrined in our religion, and to not let some of us exploit sectarianism to serve their policies and objectives, instead of using politics in the service of religion. The following steps and principles will guide us to this end: First: We have a great responsibility to prevent sedition and practice whatever cooperation and collaboration among Muslims, and to achieve their aspirations, define their problems and establish good governance, deepening the values of consultation, dialogue and justice. Second: We believe that development and reforms process should come from inside our nation and we are going to work for that end according to the instructions of our religion. Third: building the institutions of this nation, developing their system in all fields according to a comprehensive program that target the working forces and diversified specialization to develop the nation and foresee the horizons of future and face its challenges, using the ten-year plan which was endorsed by Makkah summit in 2005 as a guide. Fourth: As this is the nation of moderation according to the holy Quran , there should be no room for extremism, a matter necessitates the continuation of fight against terrorism and deviation. Fifth: To stand united in the face of ethnic-or-sectarian sedition which started to spread in the Islamic body. This will take place through mutual respect of our sovereignty and independence and non-interference in the internal affairs of each other. Sixth: The media in our Islamic countries shoulder a heavy responsibility in the prevention of seditions and the achievement of the foundations and objectives of Islamic solidarity. Seventh: To stand united by the oppressed Islamic peoples, as is the case with Arab Muslim people in Syria. Eighth: The importance of the issue of Palestine as the central issue of the Islamic world, and the end the Israeli occupation of Arab and Palestinian territories since 1967, including Holy Al-Quds, in accordance with international resolutions issued in this regard. Ninth: The policy of violence exercised by the Government of the Union of Myanmar against its citizens from Rohingya Muslim group are crimes against humanity and they are condemned by Islamic world in particular and the countries and peoples of the world in general, calling on the Government of the Union of Myanmar to immediately cease these practices and give Rohingya Group their rights as citizens in the State of Myanmar. Tenth: The responsibility of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) demands development of its plans and programs and, subsequently presents them to the Member States to begin their implementation. Then, the King asked President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir of Sudan to deliver a speech in which he proposed that the Summit expresses its thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his initiative to call for the Extraordinary Islamic Solidarity Summit, and for the generous hospitality and excellent arrangements which have contributed to the success of the summit and its works. The Sudanese President also proposed to authorize the General Secretariat to work immediately to implement the decision of the establishment of a center of dialogue between Islamic schools without delay. Then, the King and other leaders watched a documentary film about the new building of the headquarters of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to be built in Jeddah on an area of 40,000 square meters to be gifted from the King to the Organization for which the King laid its foundation stone in 2005. Later, the King announced the conclusion of the Summit, saying ''My brothers, I thank you, wishing you all success and many happy returns.' The King bade farewell to leaders and heads of delegations participated in the Summit, wishing them happy journeys.
