The 39th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States was opened here today under the theme "Session of Solidarity for Sustainable Development." The Conference elected the Bureau, with Djibouti as Chairman; Afghanistan, Palestine and Gabon as Vice Chairmen; and Kazakhstan as Rapporteur. During the opening ceremony, Djibouti's President Ismail Omar Guelleh announced his support for the OIC efforts in the case of Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar, as well as his support for Palestine to receive UN recognition. President Guelleh commended the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to establish a center for dialogue between religions and civilizations and a center for dialogue between Islamic sects. Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered the Kingdom's speech in which he said "This meeting comes in the wake of the 4th Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Summit Conference hosted in Makkah during the last days of the Holy Month of Ramadan. The outcome of the summit showed that the leaders of Islamic nations are keen on enhancing Islamic joint action through the adoption of the summit's resolutions, the final Communique and Makkah Charter." --More
