The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has won the World Summit Information Society (WSIS) prize 2017 for security initiatives in information and communication technology (ICT) in the category of Information Security Awareness. The annual 2017 WSIS Prize was awarded by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The WSIS Prize consists of 18 categories, which recognise the outstanding achievement of a wide range of organisations in strengthening implementation of the vision and targets set by the World Summit on the Information Society in 2003 (Phase 1) and 2005 (Phase2). The Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Technical Affairs Dr. Essam Al-Wakit said, "This award confirms the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's strength in communications and information technology and we strive to achieve the goals of our Leadership. As our role in the global communications sector expands, the Kingdom has become a strategic partner in the World Summit on the Information Society, winning in three categories by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Labor." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will receive its award in Geneva between July 12 and 16 of this year.
