The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaped two world-class awards from the United Nations in the area of Communications and Information Technology (CIT) and government e-Services. The two prizes have been awarded for both Ministry of Education relating to its significant system “NOUR”, and the Human Resources Development Fund with reference to its Program “Hafiz”. Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah Al-Saud, Minister of Education, and Eng. Adel Bin Mohamed Fakih, Minster of Labor, dedicated the two awards to King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Crown Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, for their constant efforts in supporting all government agencies to achieve development and offer simple e-Services for beneficiaries including individuals, business sector and all government agencies. The prestigious achievements made by that two Saudi agencies reflect the prominent development in Saudi Arabia relating to e-Services and shifting to e-Government. Such awards granted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) of the United Nations come to urge all countries worldwide to achieve more progress in shifting to e-Government. For the First time, the ITU launched such awards where more than 170 agencies representing 50 countries over the world have applied for the said awards. Governor of Saudi Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) and the Director General of the e-Government Program “Yesser” attended the event, while a number of UN organizations such UNESCO, UNDP, UNCTAD and others have also participated.
