The Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh has sentenced a Syrian national to 12 years' jail for supporting the Daesh terrorist group, pledging allegiance to its leader, embracing the takfiri ideology, and rejecting the legitimacy of the government, leaders and security personnel. The defendant was also found guilty of plotting to carry out a suicide attack on behalf of Daesh against the security forces during the Haj season. He also published several tweets in which he asked his followers to pray for his success in his missions. The defendant was also found guilty of preparing, disseminating, and storing material that was harmful to public order by using several social media accounts. He used these accounts to communicate with Daesh elements and promote the terror group's deviant ideas. He also defamed the country's leaders, and went to perform Haj without a permit. The 12-year jail term will be calculated from the date of his arrest. He was sentenced for three of the offenses under Royal Decree No. A/44, 2, Article 6 of the anti-cybercrime law.
