The second motor vehicle periodic inspection station (MVPI) in Riyadh has begun operations. The new station, situated along the Dirab highway, will serve the densely populated southern neighborhoods of the capital and ease congestion at the only existing station east of the city. The Dirab station has 10 inspection tracks as well as an administration building, traffic police section, and a parking lot for more than 300 vehicles, besides other facilities, such as coffee and snack outlets. The new station is aesthetically appealing, something which the old station lacks. It also takes into account ease of access. A new MVPI station will also open in Jeddah on Saturday to serve the southern parts of the city. The station, the second in Jeddah, is built over an area of 33,000 square meters. There were complaints of long queues at the only inspection facilities in Riyadh and Jeddah, leading to the decision to open new stations. Meanwhile, the MVPI Department has highlighted its plans to open more inspection stations in cities and governorates that do not such a facility. It noted the program's effectiveness in reducing traffic accidents and improving safety levels on the Kingdom's roads.
