The Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh began the trial of a notorious terrorist who attacked a diplomatic car in Al-Awamiya town, Eastern Province. The prosecutor sought the death sentence for the crime. Two German diplomats had been traveling in the car when the attacker opened fire on their car, which went up in flames though nobody was hurt. The other charges against the defendant include attempts to undermine security, create unrest, stir up sectarian strife, cause riots, attack security patrols, use of unlicensed weapons, and attempts to kill security men on several occasions. Other allegations against him are attacking police stations and checkpoints in Qatif Province, armed robbery, burglary, and arson. The defendant had obstructed the work of the security forces on many occasions and had fomented trouble by organizing riotous gatherings and marches in Qatif Province.
