Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir stressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on sustainable development and adoption of international visions in this area. The minister pointed out the difficulty of achieving it for people who suffer from occupation. He also stressed the retention by Kingdom of its full sovereign right to have reservation on the implementation of any recommendations contradicting the principles our Islamic religion and our legislation. The minister made the remarks in the kingdom's speech he delivered before the Millennium World Summit on Sustainable Development beyond 2015, as part of the 70th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York today. The minister said that it was clear from the follow-up implementation of the Millennium Development Goals that the Kingdom has exceeded the approved ceilings of their completion and before the proposed deadlines. He added that the kingdom was even able to join the list of high development index countries stating that the kingdom joined the list of the largest 20 donors of development assistance in the world as it ranked sixth last year, according to UN statistics. He noted in this context that the achievement of sustainable development remains extremely difficult for people suffering from occupation calling for removal of obstacles before occupied peoples, especially the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the occupied Arab territories. The minister mentioned paragraphs in a statement which can be interpreted contrary to the teachings of Shariah stressing the kingdom's full sovereign right in expressing reservation about the implementation of any recommendations that contradict the principles of the Islamic religion and our legislation.
