Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani expressed surprise at the contradiction of Iranian leadership's remarks on Arab-Iranian relations, stating that those statements don't help to build confidence for cooperative relations based on the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in internal affairs and noble Islamic values of our religion. The secretary expressed surprise at the apparent contradiction between what was referred to by Iranian President Hassan Rohani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in more than one occasion on Iran's desire to open a new positive chapter in Arab-Iranian relations and what was stated in the Eid al-Fitr sermon by the guide of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Khamenei, and its contents indicating Iran's continued interfere in the internal affairs of some Arab countries, including the Republic of Yemen and the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing that this statement represents an unacceptable interference that is incompatible with international conventions, principles and norms and their requirements regarding the need for respect of the sovereignty of other countries and seeking to establish relations based on the principles of good neighborliness. Dr. Al-Zayani stressed that the GCC countries will continue to maintain their interests, and their positions will remain calling for maintenance of regional security and stability.
