When Major General Yoav Galant was nominated for the post of the Israeli army chief of staff, his nomination sparked a controversy, which became known as the ‘Galant Affair'. In short, Galant seized a plot of land near his home and carved himself up a ranch in devious and illegal ways, which means that he is unfit for the post. Personally, I think that the qualities, to which Galant's opponents were opposed, make him among the most qualified Israeli military men for the post. Israel has been entirely established on the basis of religious myths, to steal the land of the Palestinians. Today, Israel is led by a fascist government that continues to steal, destroy and murder. For this reason, General Galant is the best suited man to represent the government, the army and the entire state of Israel, and I cannot understand how his nomination was withdrawn for doing exactly the same thing that Israel does every single day. I know that the above is my opinion and that of every Arab reader. Even reiterating this would have been ‘stating the obvious', were it not for the reason to object to Galant's nomination, and were it not for the fact that the whole world now shares the opinion of the Arabs and Muslims on Israel. In truth, there are campaigns against occupation and its evils taking place at present, campaigns that we have no role or part in, and that are triggered by the fact that no one can fool all the people all the time, like Abraham Lincoln once said. In an article entitled “Israel: Losing the Battle of Psychological Warfare”, I read that this trend is not just characteristic of the media animosity or economic and academic boycotts. It also goes across the intelligentsia and political class, spreading beyond the left and into the middle-classes. In Britain, the parties trying to demonize and delegitimize Israel include universities, the church, the theatrical, as well as publishing houses, the voluntary sector, significant elements within the Foreign Office, members of Parliament from various political parties and the media. The above was written by Melanie Phillips, a British Likudnik Jew who defends Israel against the whole world, and she is so brazen that she considers herself and her ilk to be right, and the whole world to be wrong. Is it at all acceptable for me to compare this extremist with Reverend Desmond Tutu, the Archbishop of South Africa? I shall not. But I want to say that Reverend Tutu accused Israel of racial segregation, along the lines of the former South African apartheid. One of the most active movements for the academic boycott of Israel is based in his country. This movement has hundreds of members, having started with the attempt of having the University of Johannesburg sever its ties with Ben-Gurion University in the Negev. This is while noting that the latter houses some of the staunchest Jewish defenders of the Palestinians among the occupation opponents. I can probably write a book about the opponents of Israel's extremism and crimes. The largest Boycott Sanctions Divestment (BDS) campaign is in fact taking place on U.S. university campuses. The campaign is supported by many Jews that I became aware of and of their activities through the Likudnik websites that attack them. On the other hand, there are those who defend Israel against the whole world. To document their activities would require an encyclopedia, not just a book. However, I am writing in journalistic haste. I will just remind the reader of people like Newt Gingrich, who asked the U.S. government, through Twitter, to monitor Muslims, in order to prevent terrorism. Gingrich was the Speaker of the House. His name has been linked to many personal scandals that would have otherwise prevented any other politician from remaining in the political arena. However, his extreme support for Israel and attacks against Muslims prompted Israel's supporters to embrace him and present him as a decent human being. There is also Joshua Muravchik, a Jewish Likudnik immigrant from Eastern Europe who moved – through France, as I recall – to the United States where he worked in right-wing think tanks, and sometimes in universities and other bodies that tarnished their own reputations by welcoming him to join their ranks. I recently read an article by Muravchik, entitled “The Mirage of Moderate Islamism”. Its title is sufficient and self-explanatory, really, and so is his claim, in the third paragraph, about the Freedom Flotilla episode, where Israel was a victim of Turkish aggression, which echoes what the Israeli Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, said in this regard. Lieberman is a brothel bouncer, and Muravchik shared the same origins as his, before immigrating to other peoples' lands. But the most important thing in common between the two is their defense of Israeli crimes, even when faced with condemnation by the entire world. I cannot provide a better example of the extremism of Israel and its supporters than the one that Muravchik presents. He rejects any notion that admits the existence of any ‘moderate' Islamists, but fails to see that Israel is being led by a coalition of Likud, Shas and Yisrael Beiteinu. These are criminal gangs, not political parties, and they would probably object if they were ever ‘accused' of being moderate. Today, Israel follows the model of the former army recruit Eden Abergil, who posted on Facebook pictures of her harassing and sexually abusing Palestinian prisoners, just like an American army recruit did before her in Abu Ghraib prison. The whole world can now see this true image of Israel. This must be the beginning of the end, without any role for the Arabs and Muslims in this, as I said in the beginning. [email protected]
