Five people trapped in a copper mine in northwest China's Gansu Province have been found killed by gas poisoning. According to the provincial work safety bureau, the five included two water-drainage workers who entered the mine, owned by Gansu Zhujin Mining Co. Ltd., in Xihe county, Longnan city, at around 11 a.m. on Friday. They were followed several hours later by another three attempting a rescue. After an overnight attempted rescue, the bodies were retrieved on Saturday afternoon, Xinhua reported. The site has not been mined since 2009, when it closed. The five people's poisoning was caused by operations that broke safety regulations and their company was running illegally without a safety production permit, investigation has shown.
