Pakistan's president said he will attend the two-day NATO summit that starts Sunday in Chicago and that will largely focus on the Afghan war, according to AP. NATO invited President Asif Ali Zardari to attend the meeting earlier this week, following growing signs that Pakistan plans to end its nearly six-month blockade of coalition supplies meant for troops in Afghanistan. Pakistan closed its Afghan border to NATO supplies in November, in retaliation for American airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. Pakistan has insisted the invitation to the summit was not conditional on reopening the supply route. But many analysts believe the two issues are closely tied together. Zardari's office said Thursday he agreed to attend the NATO summit after it was endorsed by the Cabinet.
