A bomb detonated Monday in a shop in north-western Afghanistan, killing eight civilians and a provincial council member, the Interior Ministry said. The explosion took place in a local bazaar in the Ghormach district of Faryab province as it was crowded with shoppers, the ministry was quoted as saying by DPA. Amanullah Shahabzai, a member of the provincial council who was visiting people at the bazaar, was among the nine killed, a local official said, without giving further details. Faryab police officials said they were investigating the incident. The ministry blamed "the enemies of peace and security."
